Q I have combination skin and am looking for skincare that will help lines and wrinkles â€" I am in my late 30s â€" but not make my T-zone any shinier. Most products seem geared to dry skin, and I can’t seem to find anything that will do the antiageing bit for combination skin but isn’t too rich.

A  One of the ‘best-kept-secret’ ranges â€" a French brand called Darphin (darphin.co.uk) â€" has just launched a range for pretty well exactly your brief. We really love this brand â€" as do most beauty editors we know â€" and think it deserves to be much better known.

It is a byword in France for its anti-ageing expertise, achieved by marrying powerful plant extracts with modern technology.

The new collection is called the Ideal Resource line. The first product, Ideal Resource Smoothing Retextur izing Radiance Cream was launched last year (£50 for 50ml) and has now been joined by the Wrinkle Minimizer Perfecting Serum, which would be good to help prevent wrinkles (£59 for 30ml).

The one we think you will really love is the Micro-refining Smoothing Fluid, which is specifically designed for combination skin (£50 for 50ml).

Darphin's new Ideal Resource

Darphin's new Ideal Resource range is perfect for anti-ageing products that don't aggravate oily complexions

It is formulated to remove gently the top dead layer of skin cells, so skin looks brighter, boost skin cell renewal and â€" key for your skin type â€" control shine, leaving skin with a velvety matte appearance.

You can use the Smoothing Fluid twice daily on clean skin. You need to stroke on a pea-sized dab, massaging the skin upwards. Ideally use the Wrinkle Minimizer Perfecting Serum first, you need just three drops on face and neck, tapped in gently with your ring fingers.

Weleda's Iris range boosted by their Almond Facial Oil is good on dry areas

Weleda's Almond Facial Oil

As you can see, the products are a bit of an investment but you do need just a teeny amount so they last quite a long time.

If you are looking for a more budget range, we suggest Weleda’s Iris range, boosted by their Almond Facial Oil on dry areas. If you visit weleda.co.uk, and look under Skin Types, you will find a list of recommendations for Combination Skin.

They also offer the same for Sensitive, Normal, Dry and Oily â€" very useful.

Another plant-based range and another brand that is not as well known as it should be so do investigate!

Body Shop Absinthe Purifying hand Butter

Body Shop Absinthe Purifying Hand Butter

Beauty Bible ?  The Body Shop Absinthe Purifying Hand Buttter

We’re pretty keen on this whole Absinthe range, actually â€" which (despite the name) won’t get you roaring drunk, but will soften your hands gorgeously, scenting them with lovely aromatic fresh-herbal notes iIncluding wormwood, which is what gives the original French absinthe drink its powerful kick). The whole range is lovely - there’s also a hand wash, purifying hand gel and a tube of cream. But we’re particularly taken with this rich, nourishing butter. It’s the very first ‘hand butter’ we’ve seen;  slather before bedtime, and hands will be super-soft by daybreak. (PS: Use it on elbows, too, which can be scaly at this time of year.)  The tub lasts ages, even if you’re lavish with it. £11 for 100ml, bodyshop.com.
