Ashish Gupta paid tribute to the 'Working Girl' at his London Fashion Week show this afternoon as he proved that a blue-collar career should never get in the way of style and glamour.

The designer - who has become renowned for his brightly coloured and sequinned statement tops - went for a more grown-up look for this autumn/winter 2013 collection but still managed to throw in the humorous touches he's become famous for, including an acid bright waistcoat that could be worn to collect the bins and full sequined overalls.

As the sun continued to make a welcome appearance in London, those inside Somerset House were given a more pared-down display than usual from the Indian designer, with traditional tweeds, checks and houndstooth all playing a part.

His pre-show notes read: 'From penthouse to pavement, autumn/winter 2013 sees Ashish's heroine adopt a back to work ethic.

'From henceforth, the hard shoulder is no longer a dressmaking detail but a place of employment - with a high viz wardrobe more practical for dodging juggernauts than unwanted suitors, in shades of midnight black and neon yellow.'

While the outside workwear - consisting of dungarees, over-sized sweatshirts with practical pockets and glamorous aprons as well as hi-vis tabards - were the staple pieces of the collection, he didn't forget to have some fun as well.

He also sent models down the catwalk wearing loose-fitting tops with humorous captions emblazoned on them including 'I'm having a s**t day thanks!' and 'The End Is Near', while a horse's head featured on a baggy grey jumper.

The collection also included luxurious fringed blankets for when the weather turns nasty as he wants his 'Working Girl' to be warm but still stylish, while plastic pockets and material on mohair jumpers featured heavily and the delicate white heels the models all wore helped to give a more feminine feel to what is quite a masculine-inspired collection.

The Saturdays' Mollie King continued her assault on London Fashion Week by sitting front row at the show wearing a simple but stunning white t-shirt dress and towering nude heels.

Beautifully tired: A fresh beauty models the no make-up make-up at the Ashish show

Make-up was supplied by Maybelline New York and the theme was 'beautifully tired' to tie in with the whole hard-working feel of the show. The cosmetic team were inspired by the idea of a 'space farmer' and were determined the models wouldn't look too overdone.

'We wanted something cool and understated and characterful. Models are normally made up to perfection and we wanted a look of polished rawness,' said Sharon Dowsett, UK Makeup Director for Maybelline New York.

'To keep the models fresh and the skin semi-transparent but matte, the team used Maybelline New York FitMe powder which has a real skin finish,” she added. 'And they also use d a concealer one shade darker than the girls' own skintone to give the tired look, which is ironic as normally lighter concealer hides dark circles.” The team finished the look with a sliver of Eternal Silver Color Tattoo on the inner corners for a reflective glint.

Speaking about the model's nails, Michelle Humphrey, Maybelline New York Nail Artist said: 'We created broken up 3 dimensional holographic nails for the Ashish show this season. It was futuristic but not too perfected. We started with a base coat, two coats of Maybelline New York Color Show (RRP £2.99) in Peach Pie. Once that had dried we added random dots of foil glue onto the nail. We then took small pieces of holographic foil (available from art and craft shops) and pressed down firmly onto the nail. Lock it all in with a final top coat. The finished look is broken up but still so beautiful!'

The make-up complimented the models' hair as all the women were sent down the catwalk with tresses like they had just got out of bed.
