He's endured a tough week of rehearsals for Dancing On Ice, taking a tumble during an attempted headstand on the ice several days ago.

And his routine was put in to jeopardy once more just hours before his live performance on Sunday night when his skating partner Brianne fractured the top of her coccyx during another fall.

But the pair managed to style it out and rule the school as they topped the leader board at the end of the show for 'School Disco' week.

And the judges were (mainly) left suitably impressed after they completed their routine with slightly altered moves to take into consideration her injury.

Although there was some disagreement on the panel, with Jason Gardiner complaining that the EastEnders star wasn't showing him enough variation from week to week.

Gardiner whinged: 'The thing is it's not new for me, you're not changing it up. I don't see you out of your comfort zone yet, we get that with Keith, he did something different tonight.

Head boy: He wowed the crowds but couldn't completely win over judge Jason Gardiner, who complained he's not changing his routines up enough

'When are you going to do something different?'

But Karen Barber argued back: 'That was fantastic, you get what you're given and you performed it brilliantly,' with Ashley Roberts adding: 'You always entertain whatever you're given.'

But still not happy, Jason cut in: 'It's the same stuff, you've got to change it up.'

Which led to Matt promising Jason he'll bring something new to the table next week if he's lucky enough to be kept in the contest.

But he wasn't the only star to wow on the night, with soap star Samia Ghadie performing successfully the jaw dropping and risky move the headbanger.

Gaining an impressive 23.5 compared to Matt's 25.5, she was hailed by all four judges and ended up second on the leader board.

Wearing a revealing animal print number, Samia put on an impressive display with her rumoured boyfriend Sylvain Longchambon.

And it was down to judge Jason to again deliver a controversial comment as he critiqued their perforamnce while giving a dig at their love life.

He said: 'There's a lot of chemistry between you, I wonder why,' although added: 'I wanted that to be the performance of the night and it was,' but complained: 'It needed to be a bit more cheeky.'

Karen, meanwhile, commented:c 'You are becoming the dark horse of the competition.'

Addressing the daring head banger move, head judge Robin Cousins told the pair: 'It was fantastic. Normally when somebody has to do the headbanger at the end, the first three quarters suffers because that's all they're thinking about.'

Meanwhile. it was X Factor star Shayne Ward who braved taking to the ice first on Sunday night.

The singer showed off by dancing to Livin' La Vida Loca.

Scoring a total of 20 at the end, Shayne showed off his snake hips, much to the delight of female judges Ashley and Karen.

Next up was Olympian Luke Campbell, who again scored 20 out of a possible 40 for his efforts on the night.

After being chastised about his timing and rhythm issues, he took it on his chin and admitted he lacks both - but insisted he would work on it for any future shows.

Although the other Olympian in the competition, Beth Tweddle, fared slightly better.

She scored well but again was faced with a number of comments from the judges - some constructive, others not so.

Robin told her: 'We can still see your brain thinking about the skating - you just now need to set up the performance level.'

But Jason, of course stepped it up a level by blankly telling her: 'Well Beth this was your chance to show us you have a personality... and you have none.'

So it was down to her dance partner Daniel Whiston to say defensively: Beth is so much fun to work with.'

Other stars making an impact on the night included Keith Chegwin, who made an impressive effort with his routine.

Even Jason seemed happy, commenting afterwards: 'That was soft, it's lyrical, it was smooth, there was a lovely connection with your partner... I was drawn into you tonight.'

To which Chegwin beamed: 'Oh my God, they've made my day, that's the best thing that's happened.'
