Alexander Wang had models all bundled up in furry clothes and accessories from his fall collection at New York Fashion Week.

The 29-year-old designer - who was recently named Balenciaga's new creative director - unveiled his cosy collection of oversized jackets and fuzzy sweaters last night, just as a blizzard whipped up outside the Lower Manhattan venue.

Hairy textures in subdued shades of grey dominated the stark runway, with snug mohair hoods and yeti-style arm-length fur mittens standing out against the stormy background.

Precise tailoring and lush fabrics gave an updated twist to the designer’s signature sporty style.

Heavy wool with thick folds and wide shoulders produced a roomy, voluminous effect.

Despite the models’ bulky silhouettes, however, sophisticated layers of tweed, silk and alpaca meant that the designs came across as elegant rather than frumpy.

Models sported sleek, copper-coloured ponytails which poked through strategically-placed slits in the mohair hoods they sported.

Leather detailing added a dimension of urban street-style to the collection, keeping the collection fresh and on-trend.

In a high fashion take on sportswear, Mr Wang added metallic details and a mohair texture to the collection’s sweatshirt-style tops.

Furry friends: Mohair sock-shoes and furry boxing gloves were some of the odd accessories on the Alexander Wang runway

And bizarre furry arm-length boxing gloves were undoubtedly the statement accessory of the show - although whether or not these yeti-inspired mittens will achieve trend status remains to be seen.

Looks were completed by mohair sock-like ankle boots, also in the collection’s subdued palette of black, white and grey.

Famous faces on the front row included rapper A$ AP Rocky and model Liberty Ross, whose white fur coat echoed the looks on the runway.

Mr Wang is set to debut his much-awaited first Balenciaga collection in Paris next month.
