Best actor nominee: Bradley Cooper received a nod for his role as Pat Solitano in Silver Linings Playbook
Bradley Cooper was thrilled to receive an best actor Oscar nomination for his role in Silver Linings Playbook, but there's one person he wished could join him in the honour.
In an interview on America's Today program to celebrate his nod on Thursday morning, the star revealed he was shocked that Argo's Ben Affleck was snubbed.
The 1970s political drama received a total of seven nominations, including for best picture, adapted screenplay and a supporting actor for Alan Arkin, but surprisingly left out Affleck for director and best actor.
In a phone interview on the morning show, Cooper said: 'I do have to say real quick, Ben Affleck got robbed.'
Cooper will instead go up against Daniel Day Lewis (Lincoln), Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables), Joaquin Phoenix (The Master) and Denzel Washington (Flight) for the honour.
Ben did receive a BAFTA nomination for his role as well as for his directing skills, but he was also snubbed for his acting by the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild.
Affleck last won an Oscar in 1997 for writing the screenplay for Good Will Hunting alongside his long time best friend and creative partner Matt Damon.
Other snubs that have been creating a buzz across the entertainment industry Thursday morning include past Oscar winners Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) and Tom Hoope r (Les Miserables) for directing, and for The Sessions' John Hawkes, Arbitrage's Richard Gere, and Django Unchained's Leonardo DiCaprio -- all of whom received Golden Globes nominations for acting.
Snubbed: Argo actor and director Ben Affleck was overlooked by the Academy Awards
Critics have said that the David O'Russell film allowed Cooper, best known for roles in lighter comedies like The Hangover and Valentine's Day, to show a depth, vulnerability and charm unseen in any of his previous roles.
The 38-year-old actor has been receiving high praise for his film, in which he stars as Pat Solitano, a man who is going through a life change after a stint in a medical hospital for beating up a middle-aged teacher he found doing more than showering with his wife.
Set in Philadelphia, Pat returns home to live with his parents, played by fellow Oscar nominees Jacki Weaver and Robert DeNiro, and learns to fall in love again after meeting an equally troubled friend-of-a-friend named Tiffany, played by 22-year-old Jennifer Lawrence.
The film also received Oscar nominations for actress (Jennifer Lawrence), supporting actor (Robert DeNiro), supporting actress (Jacki Weaver), directing (David O'Russell), adapted screenplay, and best picture.
Cooper was excited and overcome with emotion to see his co-stars and director receive nominations as well, something he said was a long time coming for O'Russell.
She's happy too: Cooper's co-star Jennifer Lawrence also received an Oscar nod
'Seeing David [O'Russell] get that [Oscar] nom, because there are so many awards that have led up to it, and he hasn't really been recognized. I kind of lost it because his heart is in that movie -- so that was wonderful.'
And what does he think about the whole Academy Awards experience?
'The funny thing was, I talked myself into [the idea that] I wasn't going to get up, but then cut to 4:30 in the morning,' he recalled.
'It's nuts. The fact that I'm going to be in a room and look at Daniel Day Lewis -- I'm overwhelmed. I just hope I'm not escorted out for some sort of odd stalking.'
His silver lining: Bradley called the whole Oscar nomination experience 'nuts'
The hosts also advised the funny man not to bring any of his Hangover shenanigans to the prim and proper Oscars, which is regarded as one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in the world.
'What does that mean?' he coyly replied. 'You want me to bring a tiger to the academy awards?'
The film has been a great turn for Bradley, who is nominated at Thursday's Critic's Choice Awards for his role, which has also received nominations from the Screen Actor's Guild, BAFTA, Golden Globes and the Independent Spirit Awards.
Bradley is already set to work again with director O'Russell in an untitled political drama about a 1970's FBI sting operation alongside Hollywood heavyweights Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams.
