Nadine Coyle has insisted she wasn't behind the decision for Girls Aloud to split up, admitting she wanted the five-piece to keep going.

The Northern Irish singer, who has been somewhat separated from her bandmates in recent years since moving to LA in 2006, insisted she loved being part of the girl group.

After the group announced they were disbanding following their final reunion tour date in Liverpool on Wednesday, Nadine, 27, declared she 'couldn't stop them'.

She tweeted on Thursday afternoon: 'You should know by now I had no part in any of this split business. I couldn't stop them. I had the best time & want to keep going. Xxxx.'

Ahead of their last gig on Wednesday, Nadine suggested the end was nigh in a series of cryptic tweets.

She wrote: 'I love you @GirlsAloud fans so so so so so much! You have given me everything! Thank you, thank you, thank you! All the hairflips, twisted ankles, early mornings, late nights, sore throats, tears & facing height fears are all to try and give you the show you deserve!

'I have seen you many of you at the tour work as hard as us! That is why I cried last night on stage & probably tonight again.

'Not sad, happy happy tears. I cannot thank you enough. I love seeing all your faces. Ok more tears. I love you all forever. Xxxxx NC.'

Although widely considered the strongest vocally in Girls Aloud, Nadine's solo career has failed to match her bandmate Cheryl Cole's.

While Cheryl has enjoyed three UK No.1 singles and a further four top 20 singles, Nadine's debut solo track Insatiable peaked at No.26 in 2010.

News of the girl group's demise was no surprise as they had only recorded a few new singles for their most recent album and had declined to talk about future plans for the band once the 20-gig tour was over.

Following their gig in Liverpool, they posted a statement on their official group Twitter account.

They tweeted: 'Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade.

'It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together. Love you lots.'

Girls Aloud confirmed their reunion last October after a three year hiatus by releasing their video to Something New online, before performing live for the first time in three years during Children In Need the following month.
