She'll soon be bowing out of Coronation Street, after playing Sunita Alahan for nine years.

But Shobna Gulati celebrated a fitting farewell to the ITV soap on Tuesday night as she celebrated the show winning the Best Soap prize at the Royal Television Society awards.

The 46-year-old actress shone in a black sequinned minidress as she posed at the event, held at the Grovesnor House Hotel.

Shobna teamed her long-sleeved dress by wearing her dark hair in tousled curls, and finished off her look with opaque tights and heels.

The event saw Corrie beat rivals EastEnders and Hollyoaks to take home the prestigious award, with the deciding voters saying of the programme: 'With strong performances and a quality of writing, the stories enjoy constant injections of humour and retain a warmth which is enjoyed by all.'

The awards show recognises excellence across a range of programme making and broadcasting skills and was hosted by comedian Jo Brand.

Other stars to take home prizes at the prestigious event included Ant and Dec, who was presented with the Entertainment Performance award for their hosting of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Celebrating their win, the hilarious duo posed up with their awards outside the hotel - pretending to bite the clear statuettes as they joked around.

Clare Balding won the Presenter award for her critically-acclaimed hosting of the London 2012 Olympics, which also won the Live Event prize.

Getting a standing ovation as she accepted her award, Clare said: 'I'm particularly proud as a sports presenter to be nominated alongside an artist and an arts broadcaster because I think it's easy to think of sports being just about sweaty jockstraps and balls.

'Sport is about so much more than that. It is art, it is history, it is science, it is finance, it is news, it is drama and above all it is entertainment . I'm bloody proud to be a sports presenter.'

The main acting prizes were snared by Accused II actors Sean Bean and Olivia Colman, who beat the competition to take home awards for the hit BBC drama.

Of Olivia's performance, awards bosses said: 'Riveting and totally convincing….  The truth in her portrayal of a woman whose son has been murdered gave the audience a horrifying glimpse of what it would be like to lose a child in such violent circumstances.'

They added of Sean's portrayal: 'The winner’s performance was fresh and intelligent with real heart, and was both accessible and totally convincing.'

Success: Sean Bean won the Best Actor prize for Accused II, while Clare Balding took home the Best Presenter prize for the London 2012 Olympics
