Sir Bruce Forsyth admits he may reduce his role on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The veteran presenter, who turned 85 last month, admitted the workload is harder to cope with as he gets older.

Sir Bruce is expected to present for up to three hours, occasionally putting on song and dance routines.

He said: 'We've got a meeting tomorrow. There could be some other little ways of doing it, because it is hard. I'm not getting any younger.'

For the last series of the BBC show, Sir Bruce did not host the Sunday results show, leaving his co-host Tess Daly to do it with Claudia Winkleman.

There has been frequent speculation over the past few years over when it will be time for Bruce to retire.

He said: 'This always comes up because of my age.'

Speaking on Loose Women, he admitted he would love to see Mayor of London Boris Johnson as a celebrity contestant on the show.

He said: 'Wouldn't that be marvellous? Dancing with David Cameron.'

Earlier this month, the Mail's Dan Wootton reported how Sir Bruce was scheduled to have crunch talks with BBC bosses.

Sir Bruce has spent a majority of the past three months at his second home in Puerto Rico, so has been unavailable to discuss his future.

Strictly producers are hopeful he will want to return, especially after hearing the BBC will fund a programme celebrating his career.

Executives are hoping to broadcast a star-studded BBC1 primetime special celebrating the legendary host’s 70 years in showbiz.

A source tells me: 'Our hope is he will want to continue with Strictly. We love him and want him to keep doing it, although we understand he has to make a decision he is comfortable with.'

The prime-time special, which has been planned secretly for months, is not being seen as a swansong to his career. ‘It’s going to be a tribute to his 70 years of TV work, but is not related to his future plans. Hopefully we’ll be producing a special celebrating his 80 years on the box, too.’
