One Direction was left so panicked by a fan who fainted that they called an ambulance - before discovering the entire incident was an elaborate prank set up by Ant and Dec.
The Little Things were told was a man who was their biggest fan in New Zealand hyperventilated and suffered an asthma attack prior to meeting the band.
And the five-piece were so concerned about the wellbeing of the fan that they called in emergency services, before the Saturday Night Takeaway hosts revealed their true identities.
What a sucker! Harry Styles and One Direction were targeted by Ant and Dec in a prank which involved a 'fainting fan' and saw the group call an ambulance
Ant explained of the prank, which will be shown on this weekend's episode of their variety show, revealed: 'The ruse was that 1D's biggest fans had flown in to meet them.
'Dec dressed up as one called Jack from New Zealand and I was Ben, a TV host from there. I introduced him to the group - and the meeting didn't go as planned. But they fell for it.'
To make his disguise more realistic, Dec wore a purple and white 1D baseball jacket and beanie hat over his blonde wig.
So good to meet you! Dec disguised himself as the group's biggest fan, Jack from New Zealand, while Ant played a TV host called Ben
Doing the rounds: The boys looked more than happy to meet the pair before realising they had been pranked
Ant, meanwhile, wore a fake moustache and wig to add to his 'TV host' persona.
Dec added: 'I faked an asthma attack. They panicked and I hyperventilated. They called medical emergencies.
'It was such fun and they fell for it. We did it in Madison Square Garden before Christmas.'
An ITV spokesperson said: 'As viewers will see on Saturday, the item shows Dec playing a super fan who meets his idols One Direction and is overcome with excitement, hyperventilates and has to be seen by a paramedic, who is played by an actor.Â
'No reference is made to asthma at all. We apologise to asthma suffers for any misunderstanding.'
Alter-ego: The pair relied on prosthetics and wigs to make their guises more realistic
Spot the difference: Ant wore a moustache and heavy wig as he portrayed TV presenter Ben
The gag also saw Ant 'accidentally' leave his microphone switched on, leaving the group squirming as he talked about who was the sexiest member.
And Dec revealed the prank had been well thought out for some time.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: 'On the 1D tour they met two fans from every nation. We heard the only two who didn't go were from New Zealand and thought, "This is our way in".
'We were all over them.'
Ant And Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway is on ITV1 on Saturday night at 7pm.
