Jo Wood has explained why she offered her son drugs when he was just 16 years old.
The former wife of Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood told Alan Titchmarsh her unusual parenting technique while speaking about her new autobiography on Monday.
Speaking about her decision to offer illegal substances to her children Jo said: 'I knew that they were looking for it, and I just thought I would rather it come from me than let him go out and look for it on the street.'
Opening up: Jo Wood has revealed that she offered her son Tyrone drugs when he was 16 years old
When Alan asked Jo if she could monitor what her children were taking she said: 'Yes, I have a very open and honest relationship with all my kids and yes I was able to see what they were doing, check on them. They were at home all the time you see.'
The 57-year-old admitted that she was 'very lucky' that her technique seemed to work and did acknowledge her approach could easily have 'backfired'.
She said: 'I was very lucky and I think the way I did it â" I was honest and open and I'm lucky, Iâm really lucky.'
Interesting parenting technique: Jo, seen with then husband Ronnie and their daughter Leah in 1979
When Alan suggested that she could have killed her children she replied: 'I didn't, I didn't'.
Jo blamed her hectic lifestyle on the decisions she made and said that despite the chaos her children are very grounded.
She said: 'âI was in an extreme environment. I was in a world that not many people live in and I think I was very fortunate that my kids turned out really grounded and really well. I was very fortunate in that. But it could have easily backfiredâ¦I'm fortunate, I'm really lucky it worked well for me, it could have easily not.'
Jo and Ronnie, who were married for 26 years, have two children together Leah and Tyrone. The former model also has Jamie from a previous relationship and is stepmother to Ronnie's son Jesse.
Alan asked Jo what her son Tyrone thought about her tell-all book that describes when she offered him drugs.
They support her: Jo said her children, Leah, Tyrone, Jamie and stepson Jessie support her tell-all book
She said: 'I went to each one of them and said I said to my younger son, "Is it all right that I talk about that I offered you drugs when you were just 16?" And he [Tyrone] said, "Yes mum, it was rock and roll." So I had the OK from him.'
Jo's new book entitled Hey Jo: A Rock And Roll Fairytale also speaks out about her own drug use.
Last week Jo appeared on Radio 4âs Womanâs Hour and confessed:Â âI was an after 2 oâclock mother. Jay, the nanny would do the morning, Iâd do the afternoon.â
âI lived a life that was, I was up until four, five every morning, go to bed about then, get up at about two,â she added. âI had a great nanny for years, my life was upside down for years.
Speaking to Alan on Monday Jo explained how because of her hedonistic past she was now committed to clean living.
She said: 'I went from one extreme to another. Now I think about everything that I put in my body. I grow my own vegetables in the garden, I enjoy all that. And I think maybe itâs because I led a not very clean life, now I just want to wake up and feel healthy.'
